Dozens of local cancer survivors along with their family and friends gathered on the Worth County Courthouse lawn last Thursday evening for the 27th annual Love Lights a Tree ceremony.
This year’s event featured the Worth County Primary School Choir singing a few Christmas Carols to entertain the crowd before Pastor Donnie Wright of Pine Hill Baptist Church offered a survivor’s message. The pastor told a personal miracle where doctors found cancer in his colon and liver in April of this year.
After a round of tests were completed, Wright was told that he only had 18 months to live, but after undergoing chemotherapy, the Pine Hill preacher has been told that he is cancer free. The pastor spoke of Jesus’s healing hand and the power of prayer when battling this disease.
After Mrs. Julie Sumner recited a “Prayer for Healing,” the crowd stood and gathered around the Magnolia tree for the solemn tree lighting ceremony. For more information on Love Lights a Tree or the American Cancer Society, call 1-800-ACS-2345 or visit www.cancer.org.
