Thomas E. Spurlin

Mr. Thomas E. Spurlin, 83, of Sylvester died Sunday, February 1, 2015 at his residence.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at the First Baptist Church with interment following in the Hillcrest Cemetery.

Mr. Spurlin was born in Sylvester on September 22, 1931 to the late Ernest Leslie Spurlin and Florine Giddens Spurlin Reed. Mr. Spurlin had lived in Worth County most of his life. He was a U. S. Air Force veteran of the Korean conflict serving in the security division and a lifetime member of the American Legion.  He received his master’s degree in education and worked in the Worth County School System as a teacher and assistant principal and served on the state Board of Education. He enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, the GA Bulldogs and socializing.  Mr. Spurlin was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Terri Thomas Spurlin of Sylvester; sons, Thomas L. “Tuck” Spurlin (Kathy) of Sylvester, Charles H. “Chuck” Spurlin (Yvette) of Dacula, Russell W. “Russ” Spurlin (Dana) of Sylvester; grandchildren, Justin L. Bentley (Ashley), Thomas M. Spurlin, Jordan E. Spurlin, Tucker A. Spurlin, Russell Augustus “Gus” Spurlin.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Spurlin was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Cantrell Spurlin on May 20, 1962, and a sister, Nancy Reed Grubbs.

For those desiring, memorials may be made to Albany Area Hospice, 320 Foundation Lane, Albany, Georgia 31707.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday at Banks Funeral Home.
