The Flint River District of the Georgia Forestry Commission (which includes Worth County) was recently named District of the Year. According to a resolution enacted by the Georgia House of Representatives, the state recently recognized the Flint District as the 2014 District of the Year. The resolution states,
“The mission of the Georgia Forestry is ‘To provide leadership, service, and education in the protection and conservation of Georgia’s forest resources,’ and each year one Forestry District is selected as the Georgia Forestry District of the Year based on measures of accomplishments that include customer satisfaction, public outreach, number of miles of firebreaks plowed or harrowed, acres of prescribed burning accomplished, training hours logged, equipment and facility appearance, seedlings sold, and landowner forest management plans completed.”
Worth County’s Rangers Tyler Hunter, Bruce Free, and Jim Reynolds, and Chief Ranger Lester Green were recognized along with dozens of other rangers from the 35 county Flint District. Last year, the district led the state in firebreak plowing, prescribed burning acres, and Firefighter Property Program acquisitions for Rural Fire Departments and Georgia Forestry Commission Use.
