MACON, Ga. – Rebekah Cochran, a member of the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine Class of 2017, is one of two recipients of the 2016 Georgia Farm Bureau UGA College of Veterinary Medicine Scholarship.
Cochran, the daughter of Johnny and Cindy Cochran of Sylvester, received a $2,500 scholarship from the Georgia Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture.
The scholarship is awarded to two outstanding UGA veterinary students specializing in large animal/food animal medicine.
“Rural Georgia has a shortage of large animal veterinarians to serve Georgia’s livestock producers and help ensure the safety of our food supply,” said GFB President Gerald Long. “The Georgia Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture began offering two scholarships this year for veterinary students planning to work in agriculture to encourage them in their career path. These students are the future leaders of Georgia agriculture, and we’re glad to help them by offering these scholarships.”
Cochran is a member of Omega Tau Sigma, the UGA Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Association and works on the UGA College of Veterinary Medicine large animal treatment crew.
Founded in 1937, Georgia Farm Bureau is the state’s largest general farm organization. Its volunteer members actively participate in local, district and state activities that promote agriculture awareness to their non-farming neighbors. GFB offers its members a wide variety of benefits, including insurance, but enrollment in any of the member benefits is optional and not a requirement for membership.
