John Herman Ivey

Mr. John Herman Ivey, 84, of Atlanta, GA, former resident of Albany, died November 8, 2013 at his home.
Born in Worth County, GA, Mr. Ivey lived most of his life in Albany where he served as a Sunday school superintendent and deacon of Living Faith Fellowship for over twenty years. He was a partner and then owner of Ivey Brothers Builders, Inc., building homes for over 30 years. Mr. Ivey was an active member of the Home Builders Association and served as president for two terms.  In addition, Mr. Ivey served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Ivey was preceded in death by his parents, William Lloyd Ivey and Nannie Jo Chapman Ivey, and his four brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Ella Dean Youngblood Ivey; his three daughters and their husbands, Vicki and Joe Eyles, Kathy and Reid Baynard, Jo and Daryl Wood; eight grandchildren and spouses, Jonathan (Heather), Zachary (Nancy), and Nicholas Eyles, Katie, Jessica, and Emily Wood, and Holly and Reid Cunard; and three great-grandchildren, Elijah, Rebekah, and Luke Eyles; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 16, at 11 a.m. at Banks Funeral Home in Sylvester, GA, officiated by Reverend Daryl Wood.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, it was Mr. Ivey’s request is that donations be made to benefit children. Suggestions are: Jentezen Franklin’s Freedom House (Free Chapel, Gainesville, FL), which supports efforts to abolish child trafficking, or St. Jude’s Hospital.  Donations can be made online at Jentezenfranklin.org and stjude.org.
