Clarence Alexander Miller

Clarence-Miller-tux-picMr. Clarence Alexander Miller, 80, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2014. Clarence (C.A.) resided in Sylvester, Georgia for decades where he raised a family and practiced law from 1967 until the time of his death. Clarence served as a judge of state court in Worth County from 1981 through the present, being only the third judge to hold this title since the court was first created in 1917.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Pinson Memorial United Methodist Church with interment to follow in the Kimball Cemetery.   Reverends Mike Davis, Dexter Wilson, and Glenn Hobby will officiate.
Serving as pallbearers will be Matthew Miller, Jake Varnadoe, Sam Varnadoe, Joshua Miller, Jason Setser and Mike Kingery.
Clarence was born on September 27, 1933, to Alexander Carl and Nellie Susan Sills Miller in Bulloch County, Georgia. He graduated from Portal High School and enlisted in the Army from 1952-1954 where he served in the 101st Airborne Division. He went on to get a degree in Math and Science Education from Georgia Teachers College (presently Georgia Southern University), and he later served as principal of Worth County High School from 1961-1965. Clarence then went to law school at the University of Georgia, where he obtained his degree in 1967.
Throughout his tenure as an attorney in Sylvester, Clarence provided a wealth of knowledge and a vast amount of assistance to individual clients, as well as various local and civic organizations such as the City of Sylvester, the Economic Development Authority, the Worth County Board of Commissioners and Board of Education.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane Hancock Miller of Sylvester; children, David Miller (Gayle) of Sylvester, Vickie Lubbers (Ed) of Tifton, Lorie Miller-Stevens (Britt) of Gainsville, GA and Alan Varnadoe (Renee) of Anderson City; grandchildren, Matthew  Miller (Amy), Joshua Miller (Katie), Rebekah Miller-Setser (Jason), Michaela Lubbers, Leandra Stevens, Breland Stevens, and Jake, Sam and Jon Ellis Varnadoe; great-grandchild Destiny Setser; siblings, George Miller (Jean) of Huntsville, AL, Ruth Kingery of Aiken, SC, and Ralph Miller of Palm Coast, FL.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his sister, Grace Jordan on January 4, 2014.
