Edgar Benson

Edgar Leroy Benson, 88, of Tifton passed away Monday, July 8, 2019, at Magnolia Manor South in Moultrie.  His funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2019, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Terrell Roberts officiating.  Mr. Benson was laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. 

Darrell Benson, Ricky Benson, Wayne Benson, Gary Benson, Steve Arrington and Clyde Thompson served as pallbearers.

Born April 1, 1931 in Worth County, Mr. Benson was the son of the late Winfred F. Benson and Frances Esther Sumner Benson.  He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ann Miller Benson; his 2nd wife, Jeanette Eason Doster Benson; four brothers, Eugene Benson, Marvin Benson, Charles Benson and Donald Benson; and two sisters, Merle Underwood and Louise Williams.  He was the owner and operator of Miller’s Garage, which opened in 1967.  He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Korean War and he was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Benson is survived by two sons, Herbert W. Benson and Bobby R. Benson, both of Tifton; one brother, Harold Benson of Tifton; one sister, Mary Jo Arrington of Tifton; four grandchildren, Chance Benson, Walter Briggs Benson, Sarah Beth Benson and Buck Benson; and one great-granddaughter, Grey Lynn Benson.

Memorial gifts may be made to Hospice.
