Mrs. Elaine Hood Tharpe, 75, of Sylvester, died on Wednesday August 21, 2019 at her residence.
A memorial service was held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 25, 2019 at the Banks Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Grady Morey officiated.
Mrs. Tharpe was born on March 6, 1944 in Worth County to the late Oliver Benjamin Hood and Elise Brown Nelms. She had lived in Sylvester most of her life. Mrs. Tharpe was the former owner of Elaine’s Restaurant and later retiring from the Moultrie Technical College. Mrs. Tharpe enjoyed fishing, working in her yard and especially her flowers. She was of the Baptist Faith
Survivors include her husband, James “Junkman” Tharpe of Sylvester; sons, Jamie Tharpe of Sylvester and Jerry Tharpe of Savannah; brother, Oliver Hood of Sylvester; sisters, Gail Dykes of Cairo, Janice Medders of Sylvester, Bertha Kamishlian of Leesburg and Josie Knight of Brunswick; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Tharpe was preceded in death by a sister, Christine James.
