Buford G. Dowdy

Mr. Buford G. Dowdy, 83, of Sylvester died Saturday March 22, 2014 at his residence.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Monday March 24, 2014 at First Baptist Church with interment following in Hillcrest Cemetery. Dr. Ben Bush officiated.
Mr. Dowdy was born on April 2, 1930 in Crisp County to the late William Jackson and Littie Hollingsworth Dowdy. Mr. Dowdy started his banking career with the Bank of Worth and later became a bank examiner. He was formerly employed with Commercial Bank of Dade City, Fl as an Executive Vice President. Mr. Dowdy lived in Sylvester since 1969 and was the former owner / operator of Dowdy Motors. He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church where he taught the Buford Dowdy Sunday School Class for many years. He also taught prison ministry at the Worth County Work Camp for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Wanell Pearce Dowdy of Sylvester; son, David J. Dowdy (Betty Ann) of Sylvester; grandchildren, Allison Parsons (Randy) and Jeffrey Dowdy (Kansas); great-grandchildren, Branan, Rand, Paige and Cullie Parsons; sisters, Wilma Branch of Jacksonville, Lounell Dorminey of Cordele and Ruth Moore of Cordele.
In addition to his parents Mr. Dowdy was preceded in death by his brothers, Glen Dowdy, Edward Dowdy, W.T. Dowdy and Grady Dowdy.
Serving as active pallbearers were Al Surrency, Graig Giles, Joe Thomas, Scott Bridges, Alan Braswell and Mike Houston; serving as honorary pallbearers were Buford Dowdy Sunday School Class.
