Ronald K. Powell

Ronald K. Powell (CW-3 Ret.), 65, of Worth County, GA formerly of Albany, GA died Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 11 a.m. at East Albany Church of God. Rev. Dewayne Joiner and Dr. Clinton Elmore will officiate. Interment will follow at Floral Memory Gardens.

A native of Albany, GA, Mr. Powell was born to the late Thomas L. and Thelma Irene Powell. He attended Albany High School and was retired from the United States Army. Mr. Powell was a veteran of Vietnam where  he served as a helicopter pilot and received numerous awards and medals including the Purple Heart.

He had lived in Worth County since 1989 and had been employed by Raven Transport as a truck driver and was a member of East Albany Church of God and Dougherty Lodge #591 F&AM.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Meek Powell of Worth County, GA; son, Xevi (Little Ronny Powell) Meek of Douglas, GA; daughter Jennifer  R. Hudson and her husband, Allen of Newton, GA; grandson, Zack and granddaughter Lexi; sister, Tammy Powell Free and her husband, Jon of Baconton, GA; two brothers, Donny Powell and his wife, Terry of Albany, GA and Rev. Tommy Powell and his wife, Jessica of  Highland Ranch, CO.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.
