Mrs. Nina Louise Vanzant Simerly, 89, of Marietta died Monday May 12, 2014 at Halcyon House Hospice in Atlanta.
The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. on Saturday May 17, 2014 at Banks Funeral Home Chapel with interment following in the Hillcrest Cemetery.
Pallbearers included Mark Morrow, Mark Morrow, Jr., David Pearson, Julian Simerly, Jr., Julian Simerly, III, and Jimmy Vanzant.
Mrs. Simerly was born on October 21, 1924 in Ashburn to the late, Foy and Eunice Mitchell VanZant. She lived in Sylvester until 2009 when she moved to Marietta, GA to be near her daughter and only child, Jean Hinson Pearson. She was a hairdresser for almost 50 years and a “true Southern Lady” always sweet and kind to everyone.
She is survived by her daughter, Jean Hinson Pearson (Wayne Francis); her grandson, David Pearson (Kendra); great-grandson, Blake Pearson and great-granddaughter, Taylor Pearson; step-son, Julian Simerly, Jr (Marion), and his children, Julian Simerly, III (Lillian), Lisa Simerly Morrow (Mark), Thad Simerly (Kimberley) and Shannon Moffit (Joe); seven great-grandchildren, M. J., Caroline and Carleigh Morrow, Jason and Casey Simerly, Luke Simerly and Logan Moffit; sister, Peggy Hepting; brother, Jimmy VanZant, plus five nieces and nephews and five great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents Mrs. Simerly was preceded in death by her husband, Julian C. Simerly on November 27, 2001, and her son-in-law, Mike Pearson.
