Virginia Dixon Heard

Mrs. Virginia Dixon Heard, 82, of Albany died on Thursday June 5, 2014 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday June 7, 2014 at Faith Baptist Church with interment following in Floral Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers included Everett Cox, Phillip Duke, Michael Rouse, Tony Davis, Richie Bates and Kenneth Duke.
Honorary pallbearers included Wayman Salter, Allen McCoward, Cliff Baltzill, Wallace Faircloth and Bill Adair.
Mrs. Heard was born on July 22, 1931 in Bridgeboro to the late Hoyt D. and Lillie Bius Duke. She was a homemaker who lived in Albany since 1956. Mrs. Heard was an avid bowler who enjoyed crossword puzzles and crochet. Mrs. Heard was a charter member of Faith Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and was a member of the W.M.U.
Survivors include her husband, Samuel “Bud” Heard of Albany; daughters, Ann Lindsey (Jim) of Lumber City and Cindy LaMar (Jerry) of Sylvester; son, Robert “R.D.” Dixon (Dorothy) of Worth County; step-sons, Sam Heard of Albany and Steve Heard (Kay) of Albany; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great, great-grandchild; three step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; brothers, Harold Duke of Albany, Johnny Duke of Shellman and David Duke of Sylvester; sister, Jean Walters of Sylvester and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Heard was preceded in death by her first husband, John C. Dixon Jr.; daughter, Rosa M. “Maggie” Ross; sister, Joyce Riley and brothers, James Duke and Ralph Duke.
