Rev. C. R. Gamble

Funeral services for Rev. C. R. Gamble, 83, were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 12, 2014 in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Rev. Eric Smith, Rev. Luke Smith and Rev. Duain Newsome officiated the service. Cyledia Mixon, pianist, played for the service and accompanied Carl Gamble as he sang “What a Day That Will Be” and Kimberly Smith as she sang “Amazing Grace.” The service began with Rev. John Leab singing “No One Ever Cared for Me Like Jesus” a cappella. Joe Hoskins sang “Precious Lord, Take My Hand” a cappella. The service concluded with prayer by Rev. J. T. Smith and the playing of “When I Get Carried Away.” Burial followed at the Warwick First Methodist Church cemetery with Rev. James Spires officiating.

Pallbearers were Landon Smith, Joel Turner, Donnie Smith, Brent Davis, Will Hopkins and Jack Gill. Honorary pallbearers were: Ned and Judy Feagan, J. H. and Susie Mann, Rev. J. T. and Betty Smith, Tap and Emily Perry, Ed and Linda Herrington and Joe and Gwen Hoskins.

Rev. Gamble died at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Ga. He was born in Alma, Ga. to the late Aubrey Gamble and the late Vera Waters Gamble. He is preceded in death by his siblings: Leon Barnes, Linton Barnes, Archie Barnes, Lela Mae Cherry and Tip Gamble; and a great-granddaughter, Reagan Turner.

A United States Army veteran during the Korean War, Rev. Gamble was a Southern Baptist pastor for 43 years. He was a member of the Warwick First Baptist Church was former mayor of Warwick. He was a rural letter carrier for the United States Post Office for 20 plus years and a Mason. He also enjoyed carpentry and painting.

Survivors include his wife: Geneva Gibbs Gamble of Warwick; his children: Patricia Gamble (Jerry) Walls of Warwick, Carl (Carol) Gamble of Cordele and Vickie Gamble (Eric) Smith of Cordele; his sister: Geneva Pritchard of East Tawas, Mich.; his grandchildren: Candice (Joel) Turner, Luke (Kimberly) Smith, Suzzanne (Donnie) Smith, Kaye (Brent) Davis, Landon (Chelsie) Smith, Will Hopkins and Jack Gill, Jr.; and seven great-grandchildren.
