The Worth County Board of Commissioners held a brief meeting last Thursday evening before adjourning to attend the Farmers Appreciation Dinner at the Ag Pavilion. Upon beginning the meeting, Commissioner Bettye Bozeman immediately mentioned that after bids were opened, she would like to go into executive session.
After approving the evening’s agenda and the minutes from the previous meeting on November 4, the board opened bids on a 10,000 gallon tank that was discussed earlier in the month. Only one bid was received from Triple-K, LLC in the amount of $500. Because it was the only bid, Commissioner Bozeman motioned to approve the bid, and the board voted unanimously in favor.
The county also received bids for an SUV for the tax commissioner’s office, but the advertisement in the paper stated that the bids would be opened at 7:00 p.m. So, the board went into executive session to abide by the stated time.
After spending nearly an hour in executive session with no mention as to why they were holding the private meeting, the commissioners returned to open session and opened bids on the SUV. The first bid supposedly came from Sunbelt Ford, but the dealership did not put their name on the bid anywhere apparently. Furthermore, Bozeman said the paperwork stated “vehicle order confirmation.” Then, she motioned to reject the confirmation because it was not a bid.
This makes the second time the county has advertised for bids on the vehicle and the second time the bids have been rejected. While Commissioner Ken Hall did express some concern over an apparent breakdown in communication, there was no discussion about how the board would move forward with the matter.
Before adjourning, the board voted to move the next regularly scheduled meeting from Tuesday, December 2 to the following Tuesday, December 9, at 7:00 p.m. The BoC will meet on the third floor of the courthouse at that time.
