Anne Harrell has music in her DNA. What began as a diversion with piano lessons from her great Aunt Cissy at six years of age has developed over time into a vital part of her daily life. Anne plays piano, and the music speaks to her and for her. She has an amazing gift and she shares it with all who know her.
Anne shares her gift through her service as a worship leader at First Baptist Church in Sylvester where she has played for the Glory of God for 40 years. She plays at two services on Sunday and on Wednesday evenings. Her music is a celebration at weddings, and a comfort at funerals. She also enjoys participating in special services, children’s programs and revivals. Although the music director chooses the pieces for services each week, the pianist and organist may select the offeratory hymn.
The music program can set the tone for the service. Styles may change over the years, but Anne prefers the blended service in place at First Baptist using both traditional hymns and the chorus.
Friend and neighbor, Donna Mallory teams up with Anne to play four-handed piano pieces. They play weekly for themselves and to entertain friends with their talents at performances both public and private.
Nearly any excuse will do to take the time to sit and play for a while. Anne’s music has always been her refuge. “I’ve always had a piano, I can’t imagine not having music in my life” says Anne.
