WCMS Names Jones Teacher of the Year

Posted on November 8, 2013 By Sylvester Local

Congratulations to Mr. Chris Jones, Teacher of the Year at Worth County Middle School for 2013-2014.
Mr. Jones teaches 6th grade Science and is the Beta Club Advisor. He is in his sixth year of teaching and is working on finishing his Education Leadership degree. He enjoys teaching and he definitely doesn’t consider himself as the traditional teacher from the days of when he was in school.
“I try to bring everyday events into the classroom while trying to relate how my lesson can overall make you a better citizen and student,” says Jones. “I like to build confidence in my students and have some level of connection with them”.
Jones enjoys the challenge of making students love science and exceed academically in his class.
“I take pride in taking a student that has always struggled and never passed the CRCT and then see the excitement in their face when all their hard work has paid off and they pass the CRCT. I know I am far from a role model but I try my best to instill in them that they can achieve their goals and be a success.”
Chris has been married to Lisa Jones for 18 years and they have two children, Hunter and Amie.
In the little amount of  spare time Jones has, he enjoys family time. His son plays on a travel soccer team that keeps the family running and his daughter has practice as well.
“I am an avid “PICKER”; I buy and sell antiques and advertisement memorabilia. I try to keep my shop “Slytown Mantiques” well stocked with vintage treasures and I have auctions several times a year. All of this together keeps me busy but I do try to sneak off to the beach often.”
Again, our congratulations to WCMS Teacher of the Year, Mr. Chris Jones!
