Sharon Siniard’s 7th grade Language Arts class at Worth County Middle School was awarded Reading Model and Reading Master Classroom Certification by Renaissance Learning, a Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., based company.

Reading certification indicates that Mrs. Siniard’s dedication to implement the company’s  Accelerated Reader Best Practices to a high degree has resulted in measurable improvements in her class’s reading performance over a 12-week period for Model Certification and over an 18-week period for Master Certification. The Renaissance Learning Company recognized Mrs. Siniard’s class as a Model classroom when over 90 percent of her students maintained an overall average of 85% on Accelerated Reader Quizzes for a 12-week period and engaged in independent reading for 20 minutes daily. For Master Class, over 90 percent of Mrs. Siniard’s students maintained an overall average of 90% on Accelerated Reader Quizzes for 18 weeks while engaging in independent reading for 25 minutes daily.

Mrs. Tiffany Sevier, WCMS principal, stated, “This is quite an accomplishment. We are very proud of Mrs.  Siniard and her class for receiving this award.”In addition, Mrs. Mary Perron, 7th grade assistant principal, commented, “We are excited about Mrs. Siniard and her students being recognized nationally by Renaissance Learning. They have worked extremely hard to earn this honor .”

Mrs. Siniard has been an educator for 10 years. She has taught both high school and middle school classes. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Language Arts from Athens State University in Alabama, and she also has certification in gifted education. Mrs. Siniard would like to congratulate her students for achieving this award. “They are a great class, and they deserve the credit because they worked very hard to accomplish this.”

Mrs.  Siniard stated that she would also like to thank Ms. Jan Masters, WCMS Media Specialist, for her support and encouragement. “Without Ms. Masters’ help, we would not have been able to earn this award.  Ms. Masters ran frequent reports and kept the class updated on their progress toward certification. She also worked with students to help them select interesting  books that they enjoyed reading.”

Mrs. Siniard is the sixth teacher to receive Model Certification at WCMS this school year and the third teacher to receive Master Certification. She and her class have joined the Accelerated Reader Hall of Fame at WCMS alongside the other Renaissance Learning certified educators and classes. Also, Mrs. Siniard’s class’ certification status will be added to the Renaissance Certification Honor Roll on Renaissance Learning’s national website at:  http://www.renlearn.com/training/certification/honorroll.aspx.
