Worth Native to Compete in Miss UGA Scholarship Pageant set for Jan. 18

The 2014 Miss University of Georgia Scholarship Pageant will be held on Jan. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Fine Arts Building. Sponsored by the Student Government Association, the pageant is an official preliminary pageant for the Miss America Organization.
Seventeen UGA students will compete for more than $3,000 in scholarships and prizes.
The contestants, their class standings, majors and hometowns are as follows:
Emily Bordon, third year, early childhood education, Martinez;
Madison Brett, fourth year, early childhood education, Kite;
Alexandra Carter, third year, fashion merchandising, Miami, Fla.;
Gabrielle Clifford, second year, public relations, Powder Springs;
Mi’esha Frierson, graduate student, school counseling, Snellville;
Kiana Frost, third year, English education, Warner Robins;
Madison Giddens, second year, communication studies, Sylvester;
McKinley Gropp, third year, math education, Marietta;
Adeline Kenerly, second year, digital/broadcast journalism and political science, Jesup;
Kayla Kirkland, first year, chemistry, Millen;
Keali Lay, fourth year, communication sciences and disorders, Warner Robins;
Destiny Levant, second year, early childhood education, Reidsville;
Jonesse Love, third year, Spanish/psychology, Kingsland;
Lauren Maldonado, third year, journalism, Lawrenceville;
Lindsay Quandt, third year, marketing, international business and German, Peachtree City;
Jillian Todd, third year, finance and international business, Lawrenceville; and
Lenika Vianen, third year, biology/pre-med, Ellenwood.
This year’s pageant will be co-emceed by Emily Cook, Miss Georgia 2009, and musician Carson Hand, a graduate student. Jenna Jackson, Miss UGA 2013, and Courtney Grap, Miss UGA Outstanding Teen 2013, will make appearances and will perform.
Miss UGA’s Outstanding Teen 2014 also will be crowned during the pageant. EmmaKate Few, 15, of Augusta, was appointed to the position in November.
The contestant who is crowned Miss UGA 2014 will compete in the Miss Georgia Pageant in late spring. The winner of that pageant will go on to represent Georgia in the 2015 Miss America Pageant.
The Miss America Organization, established in 1921, is a nonprofit civic corporation. The organization represents the largest private scholarship foundation for women in the U.S. at the local, state and national levels. Scholarship assistance totaling more than $40 million is available to contestants.
Tickets are $15, $10 for students with valid UGACards who pay activity fees on the Athens campus. Tickets are available at the Tate Student Center Cashier Window, by calling 706-542-8074 or at the Fine Arts box office on the evening of the pageant.
