Rev. William J. “Bill” Barksdale

Rev. William J. “Bill” Barksdale, 82, of Tifton died Friday, December 26, 2014 at his residence.

The funeral service was held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Banks Funeral Home Chapel with interment following in the Poulan Cemetery.

Rev. Barksdale was born in Worth County on March 28, 1932 to the late Jutson and Mamie Lois Ellis Barksdale. Rev. Barksdale had lived in Tifton since 1987. He was ordained as a minister in November 1965 and retired after 49 years.  He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Korean War. Rev. Barksdale was formerly employed with Lawhorne Tire and liked to hunt and fish. He enjoyed visiting people and seeing to the needs of others.  Rev. Barksdale was a member of the Corinth Freewill Baptist Church and was affiliated with the Freewill Baptist Association.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Latrelle Lawson Barksdale of Tifton; son, Ronnie Barksdale of Albany; daughters, Gail Barksdale Woods of Tifton and Wanda Barksdale Paulk of Hahira; grandchildren, Christy Woods, Shannon Carroll (Will), Matthew Barksdale (Whitney), Joel Paulk (Kim); great grandchildren, Isaac, Noelle and Katelyn Carroll, Olivia and Davis Barksdale; a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Rev. Barksdale was preceded in death by two sisters.

Active pallbearers included Joel Paulk, Will Carroll, Randy Franks, Matthew Barksdale, Terry Sirmans, Ronnie Franks and Isaac Carroll.  Honorary pallbearers included Lanny Franks, Hoyt Shaw and Farron O’Neal.
