Earl F. McDonald

Mr. Earl F. McDonald, 77, of Sylvester died Thursday, December 25, 2014 at Life Care Center in Fitzgerald, GA.

The funeral service was held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 29, 2014 at Banks Funeral Home Chapel with interment following in the Sumner Cemetery.  The Rev. Bob Nipper officiated.

Mr. McDonald was born on August 14, 1937 in Sylvester, GA to the late George Louis and Vada Edna Hathcock McDonald.  He had lived in Worth County most of his life.  Mr. McDonald was the owner/operator of J.R.’s Truck Stop and had worked as a correctional officer at Lee State Prison.  He was an Army Veteran with the Special Forces.

Survivors include his grandchildren, Josh Slappey (Susan) of Tallahassee, FL and Zach Slappey (Jackie) of Sylvester; great-grandchildren, Caden and Tyler Slappey of Tallahassee, FL and Natile Gayle Slappey of Sylvester and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. McDonald was preceded in death by his wife, Opal V. “Vickie” McDonald on April 23, 2014 and a daughter Gail W. Slappey on July 16, 2003.

Pallbearers included Junior Giles, Jessie Harrison, Jamie Harrison, Robby Nipper, B.J. Harrison and Billy Dorsey.
