At approximately 4:30 p.m. yesterday, former Sylvester fire chief Jody L. Yarborough was arrested following a grand jury indictment. The special presentment bench warrant charges Yarborough with rape, three counts of aggravated sodomy, aggravated sexual battery, false imprisonment and sexual battery.
Though Yarborough has made his first appearance, no bond will be set until he appears before a superior court judge. Because the indictment came from the grand jury, only a superior court can set the bond hearing. Officials tell us that while the law demands a first appearance be held within 24 hours, the law offers no time stipulation for a bond hearing.
According to sources, the 46-year-old alleged victim met Yarborough on an online dating website (pof.com). The two communicated via phone conversations and text messages for about two weeks. She agreed to come to his residence on Dec. 14, 2013 to engage in “certain acts” previously agreed upon. The encounter was reported to initially be consensual in nature, but that she later “asked him to stop and he didn’t.”
