COVID-19 Testing Now Open to Everyone

Albany, Ga. – As per the announcement Thursday afternoon by Dr. Kathleen Toomey, Commissioner for Georgia Department of Public Health, testing for COVID-19 no longer requires any criteria be met and is now open by appointment to anyone in the state of Georgia that wants to be tested.

Southwest Public Health continues to offer free testing by appointment seven days a week at multiple locations throughout the district, said Dr. Charles Ruis, District Health Director for Southwest Public Health District 8-2. Individuals can go to any public health collection site and do not have to be tested in their county of residence. Contact the call center from 8am to 7pm, Monday through Friday and 8:30am to 5pm Saturday for an appointment. The call center hotline is (229) 352-6567.

Specimen collection is underway this week: Monday-Saturday in Dougherty and Thomas Counties; Wednesday, Friday and Saturday in Mitchell County; Thursday and Sunday in Terrell County; Saturday in Decatur County; and Sunday in Grady County. 

The week of May 11, collections will take place Monday-Saturday in Dougherty and Thomas Counties; Monday-Thursday and Sunday in Mitchell County; Monday and Thursday in Decatur County; Tuesday and Friday in Grady County; and Wednesday and Saturday in Terrell County. Sites change weekly and the pubic can follow the Southwest Public Health Facebook page for the latest announcements.
