The Worth County Board of Education held a called meeting last Thursday for the purpose on voting to increase the millage rate. After a brief discussion, the board voted four to one to approve the increased millage rate of 15.50. Randy Bacon was the only board member to oppose the tax increase. Chairman Jenkins also explained the millage rate has not increased in eight years, and last year it was decreased from 14.25 to 14.24.
Before adjourning, the board also voted to amend the budget to lower the pay of long-term, in-field substitute teachers from $200 to $150 per day. Superintendent Babs Thomas stated that the former rate was among the highest in the area for long-term subs, and the decrease would put Worth County in line with most surrounding school systems.
