The Sylvester Local began receiving questions from concerned citizens last week after a letter to parents of students at Worth County Primary School was sent out by Worth Superintendent Kay Matthews on Wednesday. The letter read:
Dear Parents:
“I want to inform you that Mrs. Sandi Giddens will be acting/interim principal for Worth County Primary School for the remainder of the 2014-15 school year. Mrs. Giddens has served many years in this school district in many different capacities.
“My main priority as your superintendent is to ensure that your students receive a quality education by providing quality instructional delivery. Mrs. Giddens will continue to enable all teachers to provide excellent instruction and she will support the teachers and your students.
“Thank you for a great school year as we get ready for end of the year testing. Your cooperation with our teachers and staff is greatly appreciated. We have the best schools in the state – thanks to all of you!”
The letter was signed by Superintendant Matthews, but it did not address why the change was implemented, or what happened to former WCPS Principal Cora Brettel.
On Friday, the superintendent issued a second press release stating:
“Mrs. Brettel has not been terminated from the Worth County School System. She has been reassigned to the Central Office. There will be more transitions for the upcoming 2015-2016 school term.
“The Worth County School District continuously strives to ensure quality education for our students.”
Brettel became principal of WCPS last fall when former Principal Stacey Rutledge transferred to Norman Park Elementary School in Colquitt County.
