Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Mitchell County is located in a quiet area just a stone’s throw from the Worth County line. Amid its existence is a large field across the road from the main campus. In that field are 4,000 pink and blue crosses which represent the number of babies aborted each day since Roe vs Wade was ruled upon by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1973. This past Sunday at 2 p.m., the congregation gathered to dedicate this field to be a voice for those who never had a chance to speak. State Representative Mike Keown was on hand to deliver his remarks, echoing the sentiment of the church membership and pastor, Rev. Ricky Griner. Long serving deacon, Dennis Beaty shared some facts with me that put it all in perspective. “The Ugandan slaughters of Idi Amin, the Axis Murders of Adolph Hitler and Benito Mussolini do not equal the amount of babies aborted in America the past 40 years. I pray that this slaughter will end soon.” Last Spring, the mens’ ministry of the church constructed each cross by hand and placed them in rows similar to those seen in military cemeteries. The church is located just west of South County Line Road on Pleasant Grove Church Road.
