Earnest J. “EJ” Jones

Mr. Earnest J. “EJ” Jones, 80, of Sylvester died Wednesday, December 09, 2015 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

Graveside service was held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at the Hillcrest Cemetery with full military honors. The Rev. Earnie Pirkle officiated.

Mr. Jones was born in Jackson County, GA on May 20, 1935 to the late Harrison Brady and Edna Lee Davis Jones. He had lived in Sylvester since 1974 and was a member of the First Baptist Church. Mr. Jones retired as Captain in the United States Marine Corp after 21 years of service, having served during Korea and Vietnam Wars. He was the owner and founder of J.J. Nursery. Mr. Jones enjoyed gardening and reading.

Survivors include his wife; Martha Eidson Jones of Sylvester, sons; Steve Jones of  Marietta, Kenny Jones of Sylvester and Blake Jones (Pam) of Cairo; grandchildren, Nicholas Jones (Heather), Julianne Jones; great-grandchildren, Kira and Dalton Jones.

Pallbearers included Ricky Headrick, James Coleman, David Register, Mike Houston, John Paul Martin and Pancho.
