Mrs. Hazel Bush Melton, 74, of Sylvester died Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at her residence.
The funeral service was held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Northside Baptist Church with interment followed in the Hillcrest Cemetery. The Rev. Jimmy Cargle and Rev. Jerry Cooper officiated.
Mrs. Melton was born in Worth County on February 17, 1942 to the late Rufus Alvin and Gladys Champion Bush. Mrs. Melton was a graduate of Baker High School and Massey Business College in Columbus. She has been a resident of Sylvester since 1961. She worked with Gray Distribution in Ashburn. Mrs. Melton was a former charter member of the Turner County Kiwanis and Loyal Order of Moose. She enjoyed softball, reading, gardening, and the Atlanta Braves. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Sharri M. Knight (Doug) of Zolfo Springs, FL, and Cindy M. Shearer (Gerald) of Sylvester; grandchildren, Kayla Knight, Brad Patterson, and Justin Patterson; great-grandchildren, Autumn Patterson and Cole Patterson.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Melton was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald D. (Murt) Melton on February 9, 2011.
Serving as pallbearers were Steve Sumner, Larry Champion, Kenneth Weaver, Billy Weaver, Culmer Tanner and Brent Kilcrease.
