Jim Harrison Merritt

Mr. Jim Harrison Merritt, Sr., 87, of Sylvester died Sunday, August 17, 2014 at his residence.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Banks Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in the Red Oak Baptist Church Cemetery.  The Rev. Lindsey Gay and Rev. Landon Alberson will officiate.

Mr. Merritt was born on October 15, 1926 in Mitchell County to the late Charlie and America Moree Merritt.  He had lived in Worth County for the last 48 years and was retired from the Georgia Pacific Box Company in Albany. Mr. Merritt loved to fish and bird hunt. He was a member of the New Union Baptist Church in Warwick.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Williamson Merritt of Sylvester; son, Jim H. Merritt, Jr. (Debbie) of Doles; grandsons, Russell Merritt (Katherine) and Brandon Merritt and a number of nieces and nephews.  Mr. Merritt was expecting the birth of a great-grandson.

Pallbearers include Bobby Hall, Chase Crawford, Jack Carmichael, Warren Tison and Randall Whiddon.
