Local attorney surrenders to authorities following indictment

Posted on November 26, 2013 By Sylvester Local

According to Worth County Sheriff, Jeff Hobby, attorney Barbara Willis has surrendered to authorities following her indictment by the Worth County Grand Jury. Earlier this month, they issued a true bill on two counts of theft by taking, accusing Willis of bilking money from deceased persons’ estates.
The three-month investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Sylvester field office stemmed from an alert by the Worth County probate judge’s office. As the estates were being prepared for probate, Judge Virginia Acord and her staff noticed several “red flag” issues allegedly perpetrated by Willis. Seeing this as out of the ordinary, Acord immediately contacted the GBI for their assistance.
Willis turned her self in and was booked in the Worth County jail. She posted  a  $7,500 bond and has returned to her law practice. The case now awaits disposition by the district attorney’s office.
