Mrs. Nellie Louise Matthews Wise

Mrs. Nellie Louise Matthews Wise, 93, of Ashburn died Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at her daughter’s residence.

The funeral service was held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Banks Funeral Home Chapel with interment following in the Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Colquitt County. The Rev. Bob Nipper officiated.

Mrs. Wise was born on November 10, 1921 in Ty Ty, to late William Allen and Nellie Harris Woodard.  She had lived in Sylvester for many years before moving to Turner County in 2002.  Mrs. Wise was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, making quilts for family and friends and watching wrestling.  She was of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include her daughter, Shelia Matthews Giles (Junior) of Ashburn; sons, Ronnie Matthews of Sylvester, Irvin Matthews (Carol) of Doerun and Larry D. Matthews (Shelia) of Poulan;  grandchildren, Laura Kaye Barnes, Darren Neil Matthews, Bonnie Renee Henderson, Clint Matthews, Kala Matthews, William Warren(Will) Giles III, Shannon Nicole Ray, Russell Fletcher and 24 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wise was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Matthews on April 20, 1985; son, Clarence Neal Matthews; brothers, David, John, Mark, Charlie, Ester, Jessie, Randolph and Franklin Woodard; sisters, Thelma Hatcher, Elma Sullivan and Lottie Mae Loper; 4 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.

Pallbearers included Thomas Hancock, Billy Sullivan, Curtis Woodard, Glenn Woodard, Jimmy Sullivan (Buddy) and Lamar Loper.
