Donnie Parker, a 2002 graduate of Worth County High School believes what dear Abby says. No, not the syndicated advice columnist but his wife Abby.
Parker, an avid golfer from his youth and collegiate competitor at Darton and Troy, will be competing in the ReMax World Champion Long Drive Competition.
The event will be held in Mesquite, NV Sept. 23-27. These men do play golf in a recreational sense but their focus competitively is on long distance driving.
Abby Parker observed her husband’s mammoth swing and told him, “You are crazy if you don’t compete in long driving.” The spouse further noted that Donnie could be a winner on the long drive tour.
The road to Nevada began when Parker won a qualifying event in Madison, AL with a drive of 430 yards. In the regional qualifier in Brown Summit, NC, a 366 yard drive was good enough for second place and punch his ticket to the west.
The upcoming tournament will trim the group down to the elite 8 who will then return to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Oct. 30 for the $250,000 finals. The golf channel will carry these events throughout the month of October and the finals from Vegas will be live.
Parker has worked relentlessly to hone his skills and has even patented products to assist others who share his passion. His story, products and information can be found at parkerpowergolf.com
