Vernita Wisham Smith

Mrs. Vernita Wisham Smith, 80, of Shingler died Saturday January 2, 2016 at her residence.

The funeral service was held at 3:00 PM on Monday January 4, 2016 at Banks Funeral Home Chapel, interment followed in the Hillcrest Cemetery.  The Rev. Danny Smith officiated.

Mrs. Smith was born on October 20, 1935 in Worth County to Russie and Cleyone Medders Wisham.  She was the salutatorian from her graduating class at Sylvester High School in 1951 and lived in Worth County all her life. She worked as a bookkeeper at Worth County Hospital for over 20 years.  She enjoyed crossword puzzles, dancing and shopping. Mrs. Smith was a member of New Bethel Freewill Baptist Church and attended Shingler Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughters; Arlene Smith Ferguson (Jackie) of Poulan, Kay Smith Mathews (Kevin) of Shingler, grandchildren; Chris Shedd (Samantha), Matt Medders (Joy), Kate Wilson (Brady), Elizabeth Medders, Erin Smith, Rhett Smith and Clint Ferguson (Brooke); eleven great grandchildren and a number of cousins.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband Cecil A. Smith, Jr. on November 3, 2007.

Serving as pallbearers were, Chris Shedd, Rhett Smith, Matt Medders, Phillip Lumpkin, Tracy Hobby and Dee Smith.
