Story by Cale Colby
This past Monday, the Worth County Board of Education held a meeting which was previously mentioned in the Sylvester Local as an opportunity for the Board to discuss and vote upon the fate of the Rams’ Head Football Coach Ben Simmons. At a recent NAACP meeting, the organization asked to have the entire football team show up and be heard at the meeting.
Instead, hardly anyone was present at the meeting. The board discussed the sale of furniture. If they did, in fact, discuss keeping Coach Simmons,, the discussion took place in executive session behind closed doors.
However, Coach Simmons’ fate would be revealed later in the week as it was announced that he would serve as the defensive backs coach for the Valdosta Wildcats.Meanwhile, Worth County’s Athletic Director Frankie Carroll continues to serve as the head football coach for the time being, and there it no word as to when or if the Worth County School System will hire a permanent coach before the 2019 season begins.
