Billie Nelms

Mrs. Billie Pearman Nelms, 86, died Sunday, October 11, 2015, at 4:10pm at Cannonwood Village in Tiger, GA. A longtime resident of Sylvester, Billie was born in Tift County to Maudell Cheek Pearman and Fred Pearman of Chula on March 19, 1929.

A funeral service was held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, October 14, at the Banks Funeral Home Chapel in Sylvester GA officiated by Reverend Grady Morey.

Interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery.

A 1946 graduate of Tift County High School, Billie married Bob in 1950 and spent the next 64 years in Sylvester. During her career, she worked for the Farmer’s Home Administration in Sylvester and Albany, the First Baptist Church of Sylvester, the Marine Corp Logistics and Supply Base in Albany, and the law office of Clarence Miller in Sylvester. She served as pianist at the First Baptist Church and at Isabella Baptist Church for many years and was also active in the church choir.  Billie was a Cub Scout den mother and was active in the Worth County High School Band Boosters in the 1960s and 970s.  Billie served as a board member of the Worth County Economic Development Authority and was a co-founder of the Worth County Freenet. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the senior adult Sunday School class at the First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years Jesse R. (Bob) Nelms currently residing in Tiger, GA, a sister, Nell  Jones of Chula, son and daughter-in-law Keith and Carol Nelms of Tallulah Falls, GA, granddaughter Sarah Nelms of Washington DC, and multiple nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Gerry Pearman and Barbara Pearman.

Arrangements are under the direction of Banks Funeral Home, Sylvester, GA.
