The City of Sylvester has received a (Community Development block Grant (CDBG) /Employment Incentive Program (EIP)/ Redevelopment Fund/ grant in the amount of $500,000 from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA).
Commissioner Gretchen Corbin said, “The State Community Development Block Grant program provides an essential resource to Georgia’s smaller more rural communities in their efforts to support projects that will create jobs and assist low-and-moderate-income citizens. As communities large and small are making difficult choices, today’s presentations represent an important investment in various local health and safety, economic development and job creation programs, insuring Georgia’s communities are prepared for economic development opportunities.”
Sylvester will utilize this grant for water and sewer improvements in the Northwest area of Sylvester. This project will benefit 142 persons.

As a key part of Governor Deal’s job creation team, we’re very pleased to assist so many Georgia communities prepare for job growth opportunities. Each year, CDBG investments demonstrate how state and local partners work together with the private sector to create successes in local communities for families and businesses.”
The grant award was presented to the city by Commissioner Gretchen Corbin and was accepted on behalf of the city by Mayor William J Yearta, Council Members Larry Johnson, Randy Hill, Charles Jones, Melvin Powell, and City Manager Deborah Bridges in a ceremony hosted by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs in Savannah, Georgia on September 6, 2013. A total of 83 awards – totaling over $37.5 million – were presented to 83 cities and counties.
