Nell Wadsworth Hall Calhoun found her life’s fulfillment in her faith, family and friends. She died on June 27, 2014 at Emory Midtown Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, William W. Calhoun Sr., and children Nancy (Omer) Renner of Morristown, Tennessee; Betsy (Michael Corzine) Calhoun of Tallahassee, Florida; William (Paula) Calhoun Jr. of Dacula, and Denny Calhoun of Roswell. Nell adored her grandchildren Ben Renner, Amy Renner, Andrew Corzine, Tripp Calhoun and Cason Calhoun. Also surviving are her sister Jane Mason and sisters-in-law Mandy Hall and Lizanne (Bill) Hall Lawrence. Nell leaves behind several nieces and nephews, as well as special friends John and Josephine Adam, Carol Reece, Marsha Swanson, and Courtney, Matthew, Latham, Calhoun and Mace Hester. She is preceded in death by her parents Ruth Melton Hall and Jesse Denny Hall, brothers James Hall and Denny Hall, and brother-in-law Thomas Mason. Born in Sylvester, Georgia, on August 25, 1931, Nell graduated from Sylvester High School and attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville. As a young woman, she was employed by Sylvester Banking Company and C&S Bank in Atlanta. Nell married William Calhoun on June 16, 1953, andtheir life together took them from Sylvester to Atlanta; Savannah; Morristown, Tennessee; and Roswell. She made dear friends everywhere she lived and treasured them throughout her life. Nell was an active member of Roswell United Methodist Church, where she was a longtime member of the choir and the Seekers Sunday School Class. She founded the Noah’s Ark Sunday School Class for people with special needs and served as a volunteer for enAble of Georgia and Special Olympics. The funeral service was held Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Roswell United Methodist Church with Dr. Mike Long officiating. A gathering for family and friends will take place at the church immediately following the service. Interment was in Sylvester on Wednesday, July 2, 2014.
