Mr. Alvin Y. Cook, 92, of Sylvester died Monday, April 28, 2014 at Phoebe Worth Medical Center.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Banks Funeral Home Chapel. Reverends Jerry Cooper and Bruce Gordon officiated.
Mr. Cook was born on December 29, 1921 in Webster County to the late Henry Grady and Maud Johnson Cook. He was a graduate of Webster County High School and lived in Worth County since 1975. Mr. Cook was a retired mechanic with the Georgia Department of Transportation. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during WWII. Mr. Cook was a survivor of the Gold Beach D-day Invasion at Iwo-Jima. Mr. Cook was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and a former Sunday School teacher. He enjoyed gardening, farming, fishing and tinkering on motors.
Survivors include his daughter, Anna L. Parker (Sandy) of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Melissa LaFore (Robert), Clinton Parker (Wanda) and James Parker; great-grandchildren, Lora LaFore, Leah LaFore, Tanner Parker and Kinsley Parker.
Mr. Cook was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine J. Cook.
