Barbara Ann Holmes Phelts

Mrs. Barbara Ann Holmes Phelts, 74, of Sylvester died on Friday, August 29, 2014 at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald.

At her request, Mrs. Phelts was cremated.  A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 5:00 PM at Pinson Memorial United Methodist Church.  The Rev. Mike Davis and Rev. John David Boggess officiated.

Mrs. Phelts was born in Fulton County on November 7, 1939 to the late Edgar Lee and Edna Mae Burch Holmes.  She was raised in Worth County and had moved back here 3 years ago from Alexandra, Virginia, where she had lived for the past 25 years.  Mrs. Phelts was retired as an Accounting Clerk with Kay Jewelers.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas R. Phelts; daughters, Sara Merritt Chickering (Mark A.) of Alexandra, VA and Judy Merritt Boggess (John, USAF Col. Ret.) of New Braunfels, TX; sons, Max Merritt (Michelle) of Sylvester and Robert “Bob” Merritt, Jr. (Tina) of Simpsonville, SC; sisters, Martha A. Brown of Moultrie and Juanice Booth of Sylvester; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Phelts was anxiously awaiting the arrival of three more great-grandchildren, twin girls and another great-grandson.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Phelts was preceded in death by a son, William Douglas Merritt and the father of her children, Robert Lee Merritt, Sr.
