Mr. Barney G. Douglas, 72, of Sasser died Sunday February 16, 2014 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday February 21, 2014 at Lighthouse Ministries in Putney with interment following in the Poulan Cemetery. Reverends Chris Turner and Donnie Sloan officiated.
Pallbearers included Josh Youngblood, Robert Riddle, Dewayne Parker, Lee Boyett, Robert Taft and Frankie Douglas, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers included Daniel Taft, Doug Hawkins and Christopher Douglas.
Mr. Douglas was born on September 26, 1941 to Johnny Frank and Odell Hogan Douglas in Poulan. He lived in Sasser since 1985 moving there from Albany. Mr. Douglas was formerly employed with Flint River Textiles for over 30 years as a supervisor. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and his Farmall tractor. Mr. Douglas was a member of Lighthouse Ministries and loved his church.
Survivors include his children, Eddie Boyett of Sylvester, Franklin Douglas (Teresa) of Ashburn, Annette Hawkins (James) of Leesburg, Barney “Buddy” Douglas of Sasser, Jeanette Riddle (Bobby) of Albany, Gary Douglas (E.J.) of Rincon, Judy Youngblood (Dan) of Sasser, and Jennifer Hanratty (Bernie) of Leesburg; brothers, Willis Douglas of Rochelle, Roy Douglas of Tifton, Dallas Douglas of Ashburn and Jerry Douglas of Ashburn; sisters, Charlotte Allen of Leesburg, Blanch Pressley of Sumner, Peggy Jo McEntyre of Tifton, Velveline “Red Bug” Williams of Crossland, GA and Erma Jean “Tinie” Weldon of Tifton; 24 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; a special friend and caregiver, Mary Flowers; his canine companion, Gracie; and numerous friends including his best friend Charles “Shorty” Pollock.
Mr. Douglas was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Douglas “Tinsey” Taft; siblings, Toby Douglas, Evelyn Mathews, and Wallace “Cowboy” Douglas.
