On March 25, the board of education of Worth County held a called meeting to discuss personnel. The board went into executive session shortly after starting the meeting. The board came back from executive session to approve several items. Those items being the resignation of Hank Roy, the retirement of Betsy Davis, the retirement of Martha Hall, and the recommendation of Amy Foster, Jessica Padgent, and Julia Young for teachers at Worth County Primary.
However, the board did not discuss the curious matter of the recent relocation of a WCPS principal to the main BoE office. The Sylvester Local has received many calls concerning the removal of Cora Brettel as Worth County Primary School Principal. At this meeting the Sylvester Local asked Superintendent Matthews if she would give an official statement as to why Brettel was removed. Matthews offered a press release that the Local has already printed and gave no further comments.
On Friday, BoE Chairman Butch Jenkins stated that he believed the move was ultimately made in the interest of consistency. The Chairman stated that the decision was ultimately up to the superintendent, but he believed that the school system did not feel that WCPS was moving in the direction that the school system wanted. There also may have been some issues regarding the principal being absent. In the end, the chairman said the decision was made to move the school in a direction consistent with the expectations of the school system.
The aforementioned press release also stated that more changes should be expected for the 2015-16 school term.
