Clara J. Hodge, 97, passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Port Wentworth, Georgia.
Mrs. Hodge was born on June 10, 1916 in Greer, South Carolina to the late L.V. and Mary Woods Jones. She was a hard worker and had a strong entrepreneurial drive. Her business ventures included numerous fabric shops, nurseries and florists in several different cities throughout the southeast. Mrs. Hodge was a Methodist by faith and had been an active member of Palmyra Methodist Church in Albany, Georgia for many years.
In addition to her parents, her two brothers, Esley and J.L. Jones; her husband, D.M. Hodge, Jr.; and two sons, Billy and Gene Hodge preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Olin Prevatt of Savannah, Georgia; two sons and daughters-in-law, Van and Pat Hodge of Sylvester, Georgia and Don and Patsy Hodge of Cordele, Georgia and two daughters-in-law, Goldie Strickland Hodge of Macon, Georgia and Penny Barfield Hodge of Ray City, Georgia. Twelve grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren also survive along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Liberty Cemetery in Jesup, Georgia with Reverend Glenn Rainey officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 until 1:45 p.m. at Howard & Jones Funeral Home.
Active and honorary pallbearers will be grandsons.
