David George “Dave” Jeffords III

Posted on May 30, 2018 By Sylvester Local

David George “Dave” Jeffords III died in Macon on Monday, May 21, 2018.  He was 68.  Dave was born in Sylvester, Georgia, to the late Mary Cromley and David George Jeffords, Jr., and grew up there, graduating in 1967 from Worth County High School.  He attended the University of Georgia in Athens, receiving his B.B.A. in 1971 and his J.D. in 1974.

He began his legal career in Camilla, Georgia, with the firm of Vann, Tyson & Jeffords.  After practicing there for eight years, he moved to Macon, where he had a successful 23-year career as a trust officer and investment advisor at Georgia Bank & Trust Company, Bank South, NationsBank, and Bank of America.  In 2005, he joined Sterne Agee & Leach, and he continued there as Senior Vice President of Investments after its acquisition by Stifel, Nicolaus & Company.  Dave was a trusted and valued advisor to his clients.  He spent 16 rewarding years serving as President of the Dorothy V. and N. Logan Lewis Foundation, and he also was a director of the Phil J. and Alice S. Sheridan Foundation.  He was a member of Pinson Memorial United Methodist Church in Sylvester.

Dave had a quick wit and a kind, generous heart, and his many friends and extended family frequently sought his wise counsel.  He loved and appreciated the beauty of a South Georgia pine forest, and he passed that love on to his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his son David George Jeffords IV and his daughter-in-law Jessica Fordham Jeffords of Macon; his daughter Sara Elizabeth Jeffords of Macon; three grandchildren, whom he adored, William George Jeffords, James Brady Jeffords, and Lance Austin White; two sisters, Julia Jeffords Krulic and her husband John Wesley Krulic of Savannah, and Jane Jeffords Houston of Augusta; and two nieces, Julia Ann Houston and Susan Elizabeth Houston, both of Atlanta.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, May 24, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Sylvester, with the Rev. Mark Magoni officiating.  A reception immediately will follow the service at the Pinson Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, where the family will receive friends.  A celebration of his life will follow in Macon at a later date.  Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to The Methodist Home for Children & Youth, P.O. Box 2525, Macon, Georgia 31203.

Banks Funeral Home in Sylvester is in charge of the arrangements. Banks Funeral Home P.O. Box 550 Sylvester, GA 31791 229-776-2055 Phone 229-776-5400 Fax www.banksfh.com
