David George “Dave” Jeffords III died in Macon on Monday, May 21, 2018. He was 68. Dave was born in Sylvester, Georgia, to the late Mary Cromley and David George Jeffords, Jr., and grew up there, graduating in 1967 from Worth County High School. He attended the University of Georgia in Athens, receiving his B.B.A. in 1971 and his J.D. in 1974.
He began his legal career in Camilla, Georgia, with the firm of Vann, Tyson & Jeffords. After practicing there for eight years, he moved to Macon, where he had a successful 23-year career as a trust officer and investment advisor at Georgia Bank & Trust Company, Bank South, NationsBank, and Bank of America. In 2005, he joined Sterne Agee & Leach, and he continued there as Senior Vice President of Investments after its acquisition by Stifel, Nicolaus & Company. Dave was a trusted and valued advisor to his clients. He spent 16 rewarding years serving as President of the Dorothy V. and N. Logan Lewis Foundation, and he also was a director of the Phil J. and Alice S. Sheridan Foundation. He was a member of Pinson Memorial United Methodist Church in Sylvester.
Dave had a quick wit and a kind, generous heart, and his many friends and extended family frequently sought his wise counsel. He loved and appreciated the beauty of a South Georgia pine forest, and he passed that love on to his children and grandchildren.
