Dawn Stone

Mrs. Dawn DuPree Stone, 69, of Fitzgerald died Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Dorminy Medical Center. The graveside funeral service was held at 2:00 PM on Thursday October 15, 2015 at the Hillcrest Cemetery. The Rev. Lloyd Stembridge and Mrs. Marsha Carol Watson Gandy officiated.

Mrs. Stone was born on August 6, 1946 to the late Clabe Vernon and Garland Crowe Dupree and had lived in Fitzgerald since 1969. She was a 1964 graduate of Worth County High School where she was a cheerleader. Mrs. Stone was a graduate of ABAC and the University of Georgia with a B.A. in English. She taught Literature and English and was a member of the Abney Chapter of D.A.R. Mrs. Stone loved literature, reading, animals and especially birds. She attended Arbor Baptist Church of Fitzgerald.

Survivors include her loving husband of 47 years, Danny V. Stone of Fitzgerald; son, Daniel V. Stone (Debby) of Richmond Hill; Deidre S. Costello (Chris) of Lake City, FL; brother, Clabe Dupree of Griffin; grandchildren, Ty Stone, Zach Stone and Christopher Costello; niece, Katey Dopson; nephews, Brian Dupree and Jason Dupree; special cousin, Marsha Carol Watson Gandy and canine companion, Dandy.

Serving as active pallbearers for the service were Brian Dupree, Ty Stone, Shaw Merritt, Jason Dupree, Zach Stone, and Roger Merritt. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Norman Crowe, Jimmy Crowe, Gee Merritt, Buster Vickers, Larry Latham, Skeeter Ewing.
