Fannie Zela York Bates, 96, of Moultrie, died Monday, June 16, 2014 at the home of her granddaughter in Moultrie.
Graveside rites were held 11 a.m. Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Sylvester with Rev. Jason Jones officiating.
Born November 23, 1917 in Worth County, she was the daughter of the late William Abel York and Joseph Zela Adams York. She was a homemaker and a member of Tyson Memorial Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Charlie Bates; her daughter, Jeanette Bates and 12 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her two sons, Jimmy Howell Bates and wife Deborah of Stockbridge and Joseph T. Bates of Sylvester; one daughter, Dolores Bates Laseter of Ochlocknee; two special grandchildren that she raised, Thomas J. Laseter and Susan Zela Wynn and husband David; five other grandchildren, Donna Martin and husband Ronnie, Tina Bates, Christopher Bates and wife Kari, David Watson and Debbie Lynn Watson; 11 great-grandchildren, Melissa Zela Adkins and husband John, Jason Doughtry and wife Mary, Jessica Kufel and husband Sean, Samantha Wynn, Katie Wynn, Thomas Bates, Elizabeth Bates, Tyler Bates, Kala White, Drew White and Rachel White; four great, great-grandchildren, Avery Zela Adkins, Wyatt Adkins, Owen Kufel and Evelyn Kufel.
The family received friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Cobb Funeral Chapel.
The family may be contacted at the home of Susan and David Wynn, 7 Old Tram Road, Moultrie, 31768.
Cobb Funeral Chapel was entrusted with arrangements.
