The Georgia Forestry Commissions’ Fiscal Year 2014 District and Units of the Year traveled to the Capitol in Atlanta to be recognized by the Governor, the House of Representatives, and the Senate on Thursday February 27th 2015. Despite a forecast for sleet and snow, 30 GFC employees made the trip from Coffee/Atkinson, Jasper/Jones, Flint District Camilla, Macon HQ and Oconee District Office Milledgeville. The convoy headed to Atlanta at 7 AM from Macon and everyone arrived safely for photos with the governor, Representatives Chuck Williams, Debbie Buckner, Tyler Harden, Robert Dickey, and GFC Director Robert Farris. The group was recognized in the Senate and Chief Ranger Jamey Smith addressed the entire Senate from the podium, thanking them for their support of the GFC. We then moved to the House of Representatives where the District of the Year and the North and South Units of the Year were recognized and thanked by the House of Representatives. Everyone had time to tour the halls and displays in the Capitol and returned to Macon safely in the afternoon. Please extend congratulating our GFC employees from the Flint District which includes Worth County as District of the year and the Coffee/Atkinson Unit and the Jasper/Jones Unit which was named county units of the year for their excellent accomplishments in 2014!
