Franklin Gaughf

Mr. Franklin Eugene Gaughf, 82 of Sumter, SC., died on Thursday, June 20, 2019, at Prisma Health Baptist in Columbia.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at Banks Funeral Home Chapel, interment will follow in the Red Oak Cemetery.

Mr. Gaughf was born on February 20, 1937, in Shingler, GA., to the late Charles David Gaughf and Verlin Mae Youngblood Champion. He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War and later retired as a superintendent with Sumter Utilities with 41 years of service. Mr. Gaughf was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved motorcycles. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Manning, S.C.

Survivors include his wife, Clara Chapell Gaughf of Sumter, SC; children, Franklin Eugene Gaughf, Jr., and Charles Orvis Gaughf (Mary), both of Georgia, John Paul Gaughf of Sumter, Tina Marie Whittington, Wanda Lisa Harris (Michael), Karen Lynn Singletary (Michael), all of Georgia, and Audrey “Sissy” Burke (Michael) of Sumter; brother, Allen Gaughf of Georgia; a sister-in-law, Lorene Gaughf of Georgia; and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas Gaughf; and a son-in-law, Billy Whittington.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1:00 PM until the service hour at Banks Funeral Home.
