Freddie Mathews

Mr. Freddie W. Mathews, 67, of Anderson City died Monday September 28, 2015 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

The funeral service was held at 11:00 AM on Friday October 2, 2015 at Banks Funeral Home Chapel interment followed in the Kimball Cemetery. The Rev. Tim Mathews officiated.

Mr. Mathews was born on January 17, 1948 in Colquitt County to the late Fred and Mildred Mitchell Mathews and had lived in Worth County most of his life. He was a United States Army Veteran having served in the Vietnam War. Mr. Mathews was formerly employed with Piggly Wiggly for 10 years as a meat cutter. He later retired from the MCLB as an electrician. Mr. Mathews enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Oakdale Baptist Church in Moultrie.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Hobbs Mathews of Anderson City; daughter; Fran Tompkins (Daniel) of Anderson City; brothers, Johnny R. Mathews (Alice) of Lewiston, NC; Jeff W. Mathews (Freda) of Anderson City; grandchildren; Logan & Ethan Tompkins and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers for the service included Jimmy Fletcher, Kim Turner, Justin Turner, Matthew Turner, Joel Carter and David Carter. Honorary pallbearers include Tim Turner and Chris Dollar.
