Geraldine Booth Benson, 79, of Eufaula, passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2018 at Southeast Health Hospital in Dothan, AL.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Eufaula with Dr. Kenneth W. Bush officiating and Chapman Funeral Home directing. Visitation will precede the service and will begin at 10:00 a.m. CT. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Sylvester, GA at 3:30 p.m. ET, with a committal service being officiated by Rev. Donnie Duncan. Pallbearers will be Maylon, Matthew, and Christopher Benson, Hunter Lake.
Born on June 6, 1939, in Worth County, GA, she was the daughter of Essie Howard Hufstetler Booth and the late Eulan Wilson Booth. She graduated from Sumner High School, received a B.A. from University of Georgia, and a masters from Memphis State. She taught with enthusiasm for her students for many, many years. She enjoyed playing golf, spending time with her friends, and most of all loving on her husband, children, grandchildren, and great granddaughter. Geraldine brought joy into the lives of everyone she encountered.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her son, Ken Benson, her brothers, Cody and Johnny Booth, and her grandparents, Charlie and Mattie Booth, and John and Sally Hufstetler.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Grady Benson of Eufaula, AL; children, Maylon Benson of Sylvester, GA and Rhonda Andrews of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren, Caroline Drummond, Kayla Benson, Catherine Lake (Hunter), Matthew Benson, and Christopher Benson; great granddaughter, Claire Adams; sister, Faye Dent (Fred) of Sylvester, GA; brothers, Garlan Booth (Pat) of Tifton, GA, Brett Booth, Sr. (Faye) of Sylvester, GA, Paul Booth of Norman Park, GA, Charles Booth (Gayle) of Sylvester, GA, Ray Booth (Debbie) of Sylvester, GA, Mitchell Booth and Gerry Booth, both of Norman Park, GA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Eufaula or to a charity of your choosing. Arrangements have been entrusted to Chapman Funeral Home.
