Ira Wallace Walker

Mr. Ira Wallace Walker, 68, of Sylvester died Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Willson Hospice House.

The funeral service was held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 2, 2015 at Bethel Baptist Church with interment following in the Bethel Church Cemetery.  The Rev. Dan Story and Rev. Grady Morey officiated.

Mr. Walker was born in Sylvester on September 24, 1946 to the late Ira Grady and Nora Lee West Walker Beasley and had lived in Worth County all of his life.  He graduated from GA Southwestern with a Bachelor of Science degree.  Mr. Walker retired from Ryder Truck Rentals after 35 years of service as a comptroller.  He was active in the community serving on the Board of Directors for the Worth Academy and was a member Multiple Sclerosis Support Group in Albany.  Mr. Walker enjoyed woodworking and gardening and was a member and former deacon of Bethel Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School for many years.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Sharon Stephens Walker of Sylvester; son, Stephen Wallace Walker (Autumn) of Albany; daughter, Stephanie W. Tanner (Todd) of Sylvester; grandchildren, Madison and Mackenzie Tanner, Pamela and Liam Walker; sisters, Iris W. Stone of Tifton and Irma W. Whitten (Sonny) of Sylvester and several nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers included Jared Stephens, Justin Stephens, Chris Guarnieri, Todd Stone, Butch Nagy and Wayne Goolsby.  Honorary pallbearers included Lee Palmer, Wesley Thornton, Bill Sutton, Jimmy Stephens and Deacons of Bethel Baptist Church.
