Mr. James A. “Jim” King, 87, of Sylvester died Monday, February 16, 2015 at his residence.
The funeral service was held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at the Evergreen Baptist Church with interment to follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The Rev. Ronald Barrett and Mr. Arthur Smith officiated.
Mr. King was born in Ware County on September 21, 1927 to the late James Harvey and Annie May Beverly King. He had lived in Worth County since 1956. Mr. King was a U. S. Navy veteran of WWII, serving four years on the U.S.S. Mt. McKinley and participated in 3 atomic bomb tests. He retired from Southern Bell/AT&T after 31 years and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He spent his years in retirement being a devoted Christian, father, grandfather, fisherman, hunter, farmer and most of all a devoted husband. He had a generous heart that his family, friends and neighbors knew. He entered the kingdom of God surrounded by family and faith. Mr. King was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church and the Men’s Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years Betty Pritchard King of Sylvester; sons, Tommy Hickox (Judy) of Abernant, AL, Donnie King (Kathy) of Sylvester, Jeff King (Nicky) of Jackson, AL; grandchildren, Candi Fleming, Kristi Baranko (Bert), Jason King (Robyn), Amanda Atkinson (Tony), Melissa Conley, Melissa Barton, Jackie Crumpton, Anna Jennings and Janna Sanders, great-grandchildren; Darrien, Holly, Eve and Cody Conley, Faith and Alex King, Bob Baranko, Tony Atkinson, Devon Barton, Mathew and Sissy Jennings, Dalton and Conner Crumpton, Thomas and Emily Sanders; brother, Otis King of Manor, GA.
In addition to his parents, Mr. King was preceded in death by one brother, four sisters and his daughter, Amelia Joyce Fleming on March 2, 2011.
Serving as pallbearers were Jason Barksdale, Jason King, Ronnie Holt, Will Barksdale, Chuck Hester and Roger Mercer.
